“Attempting to further deepen and strengthen ties between the two nations and states is a must,” said President in a meeting with the CEO of the National Unity Government of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah, stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always stood and will stand by the Afghan government and nation.
In this meeting that happened on the sidelines of the OIC Summit in Turkey on Thursday, President Rouhani described the cultural commonalities of the two nations as an important matter for the Islamic Republic of Iran and said: “The Afghan nation has endured ample hardships through many years now, but they have stood firm on the path of their independence and security”.
Stressing the need to develop ties and cooperation between Tehran and Kabul to achieve common interests for the two nations, he also said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always wanted developing stability and peace in Afghanistan and will always stand by the people of this country”.
He also called for fostering relations between the private sectors of the two countries, as well as Iranian and Afghan entrepreneurs and investors and described them as significant steps for deepening the Iran-Afghanistan ties.
In this meeting, Abdullah Abdullah also appreciated Iranian government’s support of the Afghan nation and government, especially through hardships and said: “Afghanistan is determined to further develop ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as putting the agreements into action that we hope for their acceleration by activating The Joint Commission of Iran and Afghanistan”.
