Iranian photographer Jalal Shamsazaran has won the Environmental Vision Award at the 76th Pictures of the Year International Competition (ROY) in the U.S. Shamsazaran received the award for his collection “The Wind Will Take Us Away”, which covers the ongoing drought and mismanagement of the crisis in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, the organizers announced last week.

As world’s oldest and most prestigious photojournalism program and contest, ROY is organized annually by the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri.

Judging photos and selecting winners and photographers of the year in different categories continued until March 1. See all pictures in the series.

Jalal Shamsazaran was born in Tabriz, Iran in 1971. He is a self-taught photographer and a social documentary photographer. He currently lives and works in his hometown.
