Moscow has warned Tehran against making ‘reckless steps’ to quit the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.

Ryabkov added that Russia urges Iran to comply with its obligations to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), according to Sputnik.

The Russian statement was preceded with an Iranian threat to pull out of the treaty in case the matter was referred to the Security Council.

The NPT is the main treaty that guarantees global security, Ryabkov continued.

He noted that Iranians are aware it’s not right to doubt Tehran’s commitment to it.
