A senior National Iranian Oil Engineering Company (NIOEC) official said on Monday that negotiations were underway with the West African country of Sierra Leone to build an oil refinery.
Aliasgar Sajedi, the company’s director, further said that several rounds of negotiations have been held with countries in Europe, Asia and Africa to construct or purchase refineries, IRNA reported.
“The country intends to buy shares of foreign refineries to guarantee the purchase of its crude oil,” he added.
“Based on the negotiations, in the first stage, Iran will construct oil storage depots in Sierra Leone,” Sajedi said adding this will be followed by the construction of the refinery in the next stage.
Over the past years, the Islamic Republic has placed special priority on boosting ties with African states.
