The Iranian Civil Aviation Organization revealed Monday that all flights to and from Iraq have been suspended to curb the spread of a Covid-19 strain.

The decision which went into effect on Sunday will last for a week.

The organization said the new measure was taken to protect the Iranian citizens against the variant which was first detected in the UK late last year.

All airlines are required to inform their passengers about the new measure in a timely manner, a statement by the firm said.

Iraq banned flights with several countries, including Iran, earlier in January due to concerns over the spread of a newly-discovered coronavirus disease strain.
